Edition of 10.
Etching is a process whereby a metal plate is covered entirely with
an acid resist or 'ground'. The ground is then partially removed
and the plate immersed in acid. The exposed areas of plate will
be etched away by the acid. The etched areas or lines will hold
ink to varying degrees depending on how deeply 'bitten' they are. |

I have always been drawn to patterns found in the natural environment
and those created by human activity. Many of these are invisible to the human eye; waves of light and sound; the flow of the air; the patterns of our movements and interactions; the transfer of energy between us.
I approach this subject matter with an intensity and intimacy that reflects my emotional connection to my surroundings and experiences.
I am fascinated by the ever changing forms found in water and the reflected shapes of light on it’s surface. I love to look into tiny, secret inner spaces of a flower, shell or leaf unfurling.
Intaglio printing processes such as etching allow me to explore these themes using the fine detail that are characteristic of these techniques. An element of the unknown is introduced as the drawn image is changed through etching and then reversed when printed from plate to paper. My images are primarily drawn freehand onto the plate using photographs, found objects or drawings as a starting point.
